I am cycling the route alone, although my family are also making the journey by
car. Their valuable support means that I do not have to carry much with
me, so I can use a lightweight road bike. I will create diary links each day in the space below, for you to see exactly how the trip goes. The daily blog might not be posted until late in the evening.

This August I will be cycling across Britain, at its widest point - from St David's in Wales to Lowestoft in Suffolk. My route will be a little under 400 miles, and I am planning to ride it in only four days. I'm still trying to impress my wife, who tells me I made last year's Land's End to John o'Groats ride "look easy."
As you'll see, it won't be easy this time, with an average daily distance of almost 100 miles. I have been training, with plenty of local routes to Cheddar, Bath, and Wales, plus a trip to Southampton, but I am less fit and much heavier than last year - so I think this might be hard work. I'm very much looking forward to it though, seeing some of the hillier parts of Wales before moving on to Stratford Upon Avon and Cambridge, and then heading over to Suffolk.
I'll be writing an online blog again (the links will be on the
left), so you will be able to see whether I'm suffering. I'm not
really asking for sponsorship money again this year, as so many
people have already been very generous, but if anyone feels like
giving, I am supporting the same charity:
CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids), which offers free,
6-day residential respite breaks for disadvantaged children from
across the UK. To sponsor my challenge please

website,
HERE.
Latest news - August 16th - I have
now completed the ride successfully, although not without some difficulties
along the way. My diary links are on the left. |
